Client: NTS
Project:
Pipeline Reactivation Study
Overview
NTS own and operate a large gas transmission system in southern Brazil.
NTS asked us for support to develop a reactivation plan for a section of pipeline which had been isolated due to integrity concerns.
The project goal was to consider all available data, review the credible threats and support the operator to develop a strategy (consider 3rd party assessment results) to return the pipeline section to the original MAOP.
Location
Southern Brazil
Project Stats
Length of Isolated Segment
Diameter
Number of joints excavated along system to date
The Approach
We collected data from 4 key areas:
- Design
- Operation
- Inspection (EMAT, MFL, Geometry, Inertial)
- In-Field Excavations (259 pipe joints)
A review of all credible threats within the section (including axial and circumferential cracking) was completed which enabled the operator to develop a strategy to return the segment to service.
Results
After a thorough analysis and considering risk, a 5 stage reactivation plan (considering other 3rd party engineering assessment results) was developed to return the pipeline to the original MAOP.
